Literature Thesis Internship

Human Health Vision BV (HHV Biotech) is an innovative biotechnology company that believes that all patients should have access to effective anti-infective therapies. The company’s mission is to develop innovative treatments for biofilm-related infectious diseases. Since its inception in 2021, HHV Biotech has built up a network of global partners to accelerate the development of their lead drug candidate HHV-001. Currently, HHV-001 is in pre-clinical development for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI).

The position:
HHV Biotech is looking for a talented and ambitious master’s student for a literature thesis project to review currently available in vivo biofilm models. Approximately 80% of all chronic infections are related to biofilms, and they play a key role in enabling bacteria to evade treatment and the host-immune system, thus contributing to the development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Significant work has been done to develop in vitro and in vivo biofilm models, however there is no such thing as a ”one-size-fits-all” model. Recent reviews have been made which describe in vitro models, and strategies have been suggested for how to combine methods to get the most robust results, however there is still a gap in the literature regarding in vivo models. In this project, we aim to collect information regarding the current state of in vivo biofilm research, and create a strategy for approaching in vivo research to support our selected indications (for instance, identification of biomarkers). These results will provide valuable information and will support strategic decision making.
